Hi Zim. I remember when we were there they would take canoes out at night, and try to get to Smugglers cove when the tide was at it's lowest point so you could get into the cave and try to dig up the old pirate tressure before the tide came back in. If you didn,t get out in time you could get trapped. You also had to watch out for the giant octapus that guarded the tressure. Boy those were great times. Life dosn't get much better then that.

Rugged E does night kayaks and snorkels, and Smugglers Cove supposedly has two treasures now. The one left by Sam Prentice and one left by EB staffers. I've always wanted to go out looking for either one.

For the past 2 years I have been working on putting the final edits on a novel I wrote. The main setting for the plot takes place on Catalina and while the time period is the late 70's, I can assure all that this is a work of fiction. I have had a few people read one of the rough edits and the feedback has been positive and constructive. When my toughest editor (my wife) completes her final mark-up, it will be ready to be rejected by plenty of publishers! Even if it never sees the presses, writing it and re-writing it has been a work of love. The memories uncovered through this long process were amazing. I encourage each person who spent part of their lives on the island to write those experiences down . . .no matter how long it has been. The trip back in time is a blast!
